Diabetes Is the Culprit in Our Health Problems

Over 150 million people have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in the United States. What's the reason for such a large amount of people having the same disease? What do they have in common? Mostly, it's the American diet that is the culprit. Some say that diabetes is a reaction to genealogy, but it is actually type 1 that you can blame your relatives on. With type 2 diabetes the blame is on our dietary habits. We are the best fed people in the world, and yet we stuff our bodies with food that has the same nutrition as cardboard, and we add a little poison to our food as well, with preservatives and too much sugar and fat. Is it no wonder that people have a very high blood sugar, which is a sign of diabetes, with the sweets addiction that American people have.

How have we gotten to this kind of dilemma? We first of all have been trained since children to eat non-nutritious meals, such as the good old TV dinners. All of the nutrition that may have been included in these foods has since been processed out. We eat cupcakes and chips as snacks, and we drank Cool-Aid with sugar and grape juice that had very little grapes in it; not to mention all the sodas we are addicted to. What do you think these foods do to our bodies?

First of all, the sweets we consume on a daily basis turns into insulin, which is a fat-storing hormone. Feeding this hormone builds up over the years and our blood sugar takes in so much insulin that it overloads. Our blood is high on sugar. The nature of anything that makes us high is that eventually you crash and fall down. The sugar in our blood over-stimulates the insulin and as we continue to eat sweets and carbohydrates, that creates more fat, especially around the mid-section of our bodies.

After years of this kind of treatment to our blood sugar, we become insulin resistant. The organs in our body that usually process the sugar in our blood stream can't do it anymore. So the insulin becomes the commander of our body and it tells the organs what to do. Insulin, in itself, wasn't meant to be in command.

How do we change our blood sugar and put the insulin in its place? First of all, you've got to get a handle on your diet. There are a lot of books out there that tell you how to eat, with recipes that will be very helpful. There are also websites on the internet that can help you choose your foods carefully. Don't let this disease take over your life. People have had amputations of their feet because of the disease and have died at a younger age than they should have. Go to your doctor and get tested for diabetes, and if you do have it pay close attention to eating a nutritious and balanced diet.
